Siona O’Connell
DOC LOUNGE: In Gods Name (premiere)
DOC LOUNGE Aarhus presents the international premiere of Siona O’Connells latest film, In Gods Naam (In God’s Name) – a 26-minute documentary that looks at the history of the Slave Church in Cape Town.
Directed by University of Pretoria scholar and filmmaker, Professor Siona O’Connell, the film considers the long reach of a colonial and slave history and confronts the schisms that remain unreconciled between the Nederduitse Gereformeerder Kerk (NGK) and The Uniting Reformed Church in Southern Africa (URCSA).
The film makes an argument for a reinterpretation of the past in order to imagine a freedom that remains elusive in South Africa.
