Doc Lounge: XY Chelsea
XY Chelsea provides an intimate insight into the life and career of Chelsea Manning; the transgendered American soldier and activist who was sentenced to 35 years in military prison for leaking confidential information about the US wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Clearly marked by her time as a soldier, prison inmate and prosecuted, and while working on a new career as a politician, she tries to explain to the outside world why she felt it was important to leak military information to Wikileaks. As she maintains her loyalty to Wikileaks founder Julian Assange, she returns to the searchlight of the authorities.
The film XY CHELSEA brings us close to someone who is willing to jeopardize her own freedom to bring the truth to light – but at what cost?
