Have you heard that children’s interest in reading is declining? Isn’t that terrible?

THE SECRET LIBRARY 1 and THE SECRET LIBRARY 2 create a beautiful space that opens up the reading experience for children and adults.

When the books in the library are not borrowed by anyone,
they smoke down in the dark cellar.
There they stand
with their backs filled with stories,
that can make my heart burst or bear or swoon with happiness.
I have retrieved two of the books, which are secret until they are opened.

Bodil Alling depicts the stories, accompanied by the most beautiful images and Søren Søndberg’s wonderful music and sound universe.

THE SECRET LIBRARY 1

For children from 8 years old.

Hey there, come on in
Then I’ll show you.
A story that goes round and round.
It flutters away with the wind.
And comforts the one who cries.
And the heart skips a beat.

THE SECRET LIBRARY 2

For children from 6-8 years old.

When there is no one who can answer their question,
they themselves must travel out into the world to find the answer.
They travel over fields and mountans
under the dark sky
above the deep water,
across icy, snow-covered fields.
2 children with hats
and mittens and a dog.

Practical

THE SECRET LIBRARY 1 and 2 is an intimate, beautiful space, and plays for 55 audiences at a time.
The performance takes place in two loops and is thus playing for 110 audiences in total. You are free to combine the two performances.

Iscene (DK)

Completely enchanting theatre. Bodil Alling tells with presence, empathy and soul in the words. We can almost smell the scents of her words.

Teateravisen (DK)

Offers a story and an expression that stands out from the fictional universes children are most used to encountering. The choice of text and the expression testify to the theatre's courage and artistic abilities to tell 'counterculture' stories'.
